Blue-Gold Game Recap: Breaking Down The Notre Dame Spring Game

Irish Breakdown dives into what we saw from the Notre Dame spring game

Notre Dame wrapped up its spring practice period with the 92nd annual Blue-Gold Game. The Gold team came out on top with a 24-0 victory. After the game the Irish Breakdown team got together to go over the performance and discuss the game with Notre Dame fans.

Here is our breakdown from the game:

NOTRE DAME OFFENSE

This portion of the show includes the intro where we talked big picture about the game and then gets into our specific offensive review. We kicked the offensive performance with discussion about the new wrinkles that Gerad Parker has added to the offense. Here are some other topics:

*** We broke down the performance of quarterbacks Sam Hartman and Tyler Buchner.

*** There wasn't much action from the running backs, but sophomore Gi'Bran Payne was a standout. We followed that up with a look at the wide receivers, with a focus on the standout performances from Jayden Thomas and Jaden Greathouse.

*** The offensive line for the Gold team was outstanding, in part because of the play of Rocco Spindler and Aamil Wagner. We broke down what we saw from that duo and also where some of the concerns remain up front.

NOTRE DAME DEFENSE

With the defense unable to blitz much it was hard to get too much of a feel on any changes we'll see on that side of the ball. That allowed us to focus more on individual performances.

*** Notre Dame's Vyper's had good days, especially Jordan Botelho and Josh Burnham, and we discussed what we saw. During this portion of the show we also discussed players like Jason Onye, Howard Cross III, Donovan Hinish and Tyson Ford, among others.

*** The linebackers had a strong day for both teams. The sophomore linebackers (Nolan Ziegler and Jaylen Sneed) were very good and the freshmen (Jaiden Ausberry, Drayk Bowen, Preston Zinter) also showed off their impressive talent.

*** Cornerbacks Jaden Mickey and Chance Tucker had quality performances, which we broke down. It wasn't as good of a day for Clarence Lewis. A walk-on safety also stood out in the game.

MAILBAG

Following the breakdown of the game we answered subscriber and listener questions, which focused primarily on the game. We did have a few recruiting nuggets as well.
