There was a lot of action in week two of the college football season, with some upsets happening and some programs earning huge wins. With the games all complete it times to update the Irish Breakdown Top 25.

Here is the IB Top 25 heading into week three of action:

IB Top 25 - Week 3

Dropped Out: #23 NC State (lost 45-24 vs #9 Notre Dame), #24 Oklahoma (won 28-11 vs SMU), #25 Tulane (lost 37-20 vs Ole Miss)

Notre Dame remains at No. 9 in my rankings after its big win over NC State, who was ranked No. 23 last week. Texas leaped the Irish after its 10-point road win over No. 3 Alabama, while the Tide fell all the way to No. 11. Several teams had very unimpressive wins over mediocre to bad teams, so I had a lot of little reshuffling going on this week.

USC beat Stanford 56-10, but it could have been much, much worse. The Trojans called off the dogs after being up 49-3 at halftime. Florida State had a very impressive win over Southern Miss, and I strongly considered bumping them up to No. 2, but I want to see a little bit more from the Seminoles before I make the full leap. I really like what I've seen so far from Oregon State, so they got a good sized bump this week.

I dropped out Oklahoma despite their win because they looked very sloppy and mediocre in beating SMU. UCLA has been the more impressive team so far, and both Ole Miss and Miami jumped in with impressive wins.

RANKINGS CRITERIA

With the season being just two weeks old there is more that goes into this ranking than just what we saw in week one and two. There just isn't enough data from two weeks of action to base the updated rankings based off games this season.

So the criteria includes factors that went into the Preseason Rankings and also how teams looked in week one. This ranking is similar to how the College Football Playoff committee does its rankings, with each week being sort of a "throw it out and start over" approach. It's not as strong as the CFP committee, but a similar philosophy, especially this early in the season.

One change from last week is that there is a lot more weight put on the first two weeks, even with some "projection" still built in.
