Jack Kiser To Return To Notre Dame For Sixth Season
Jack Kiser will be back at Notre Dame for one more season. The veteran linebacker announced on Wednesday that he plans to return to Notre Dame for his sixth and final season of college eligibility.
Pro Football Focus gave Kiser the highest grade of any Fighting Irish defensive player in 2023. He is the team’s third-leading tackler this season with a career-high 59. JD Bertrand (75) and Howard Cross III (64) were the only two Irish defenders with more tackles during the regular season.
Kiser had one sack, one tackle for loss, three quarterback hurries, an interception, a pass breakup, and forced one fumble this season as well as Notre Dame’s primary Rover. He played the fewest snaps of the three primary linebackers (Bertrand and Marist Liufau the other two), because the Irish used its nickel package more predominantly this season.
The Royal Center, Ind native has 182 career tackles to his credit in his first five seasons at Notre Dame. He has also played in 62 career games. He was a freshman in 2019 and is able to return to Notre Dame for a sixth year due to the NCAA pandemic waiver that was granted to anyone who played during the 2020-2021 academic year.
Liufau has already declared for the NFL draft and while Bertrand has not officially declared his intentions for the draft, he has accepted an invitation to play in the East – West Shrine game, which means he plans to enter his name in the draft pool. Those two departures mean Kiser will be Notre Dame’s most experienced returning linebacker in 2024.
Other returning linebackers who were on the two-deep depth chart at the end of this season are true freshmen Drayk Bowen and Jaiden Ausberry and sophomore Jaylen Sneed.
