New Orleans Saints Draft Notre Dame DE Isaiah Foskey

The New Orleans Saints have drafted former Notre Dame star edge Isaiah Foskey

The New Orleans Saints drafted former Notre Dame star defensive end Isaiah Foskey with the 40th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. It is the highest a Notre Dame defensive end has been drafted since 1997 when Renaldo Wynn was taken 27th overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Foskey was an impact pass rusher for Notre Dame over the last two seasons, becoming the first player in Fighting Irish history to post back-to-back double digit sack seasons. The 6-5, 265-pound California native broke onto the scheme as a key rotation player for the Irish during their playoff run in 2020. He followed that up with an outstanding 2021 season, registering 11 sacks to help the Irish to an 11-2 record.

Foskey finished his career with 11 sacks as a senior in 2022, which led the Irish defense and tied his career high. He finished his career as one of the most prolific players in program history. Foskey finished with 26.5 career sacks, which makes him the programs all-time leader in that category.

Foskey earned first-team honors from AFCA and Walter Camp, while Sporting News, FWAA and the AP gave him second team honors. He was named a consensus All-American following the 2022 season.

Foskey is the third Notre Dame player to be selected by the Saints in the last five years. New Orleans drafted tight end Alize Mack in the 7th round of the 2019 Draft and former Irish quarterback Ian Book in the 4th round of the 2021 Draft.
