Notre Dame Football 2023 Scholarship Chart

A look at the latest with Notre Dame's 2023 scholarship situation

Notre Dame kicked off spring practice and there were several changes to the roster. It's time to update the Notre Dame football scholarship chart for the 2023 season now that spring ball is underway.

(NOTE: The players are listed by grade and eligibility; this is not a depth chart)

Here's a position-by-position breakdown

Quarterback – 4
Running Back – 5
Wide Receiver – 9
Tight End – 6
Offensive Line – 17

Defensive End – 10
Defensive Tackle – 8
Linebacker – 9
Safety – 6
Cornerback – 8

Offense – 41
Defense – 41
Specialists – 3

TOTAL SCHOLARSHIPS – 85

As of right now Notre Dame is still two scholarships over the limit of 85. Between now and the first week of the season the Irish still need to lose two scholarship players from the roster.

Here is a look at some of the changes to the roster:

Junior linebacker Will Schweitzer announced he was going on a medical scholarship due to a health problem that arose last year. Junior safety Justin Walters is also medically retiring after battling injuries the last two years. Both will remain at Notre Dame but they will no longer play football. Quarterback Ron Powlus III has also medically retired from football.

Junior cornerback Phillip Riley, junior offensive tackle Caleb Johnson and junior placekicker Joshua Bryan are also no longer on the football team.

Head coach Marcus Freeman also noted that sophomore tight end Eli Raridon, senior tight end Kevin Bauman, freshman safety Adon Shuler and freshman defensive tackle Devan Houstan would all be out for the spring. Houstan and Shuler have shoulder injuries while Raridon and Bauman have knee injuries.

Running back Jadarian Price, cornerback Cam Hart and safety Thomas Harper will all be limited during the spring.

Senior Chris Tyree is still listed as a running back on the roster, but during today's practice he spent the drill periods playing slot receiver.

Here are the jersey changes:

#0 - Deion Colzie (from #16)
#0 - Xavier Watts (from #26)
#2 - Chris Tyree (from #25)
#3 - Jaylen Sneed (from #17)
#5 - Tobias Merriweather (from #15)
