Benjamin Morrison Is Ranked Among The Nation's Top Returning Cornerbacks

Notre Dame sophomore cornerback Benjamin Morrison was named as the 4th best returning cornerback in college football

Notre Dame has one of the best returning cornerback rooms in college football, and rising sophomore Benjamin Morrison is the big name in that group. Pro Football Focus named the Irish standout cover man as the nation's No. 4 returning cornerback for the 2023 season.

"Johnson wasn’t the only true freshman who excelled at corner this past season.

Morrison was a ballhawk for the Fighting Irish in 2022, as his six interceptions were tied for the most among Power Five corners while his 29.2 passer rating allowed ranked third among that same group." - Max Chadwick, PFF

Morrison was a breakout player for Notre Dame last season, and his emergence gave the cornerback depth chart a major boost. He made his presence felt immediately, and before the month of September was over the Arizona native was in the starting lineup.

Teams tried testing the rookie last season, and Morrison made them pay by picking off six passes, including two huge picks in the 35-14 win over Clemson. He returned his second interception of that game 96 yards for a back breaking touchdown. Morrison also had a career-high seven tackles in that win over the Tigers. Two weeks later, Morrison tied a Notre Dame single game record with three interceptions in a 44-0 Fighting Irish victory over Boston College.

Morrison finished his freshman campaign with 33 tackles and four pass break ups, which helped him earn Freshman All-American honors from ESPN, Football Writers Association of America, The Athletic, Pro Football Focus and 247Sports.

If they can stay in good health, Morrison and fifth-year senior Cam Hart should former one of the nation's very best one-two punches at cornerback in the 2023 season.
