Joe Alt, Audric Estime, Howard Cross Earn Sporting News Midseason All-American Honors

Notre Dame stars Audric Estime, Howard Cross III and Joe Alt earned Midseason All-American honors from Sporting News

The Midseason All-American honors continue to roll out and more respect for Notre Dame players has come with it. Notre Dame running back Audric Estime, offensive tackle Joe Alt and defensive tackle Howard Cross III all earned first-team honors from Sporting News.

Earning this kind of honor from Sporting News is important because the outlet is one of five that is responsible for consensus All-American status. Notre Dame's three All-Americans was more than any other team.

Estime currently ranks fourth in the nation in rushing with 787 yards and ranks sixth in the nation with nine rushing touchdowns. The New Jersey native got off to a fast start, rushing for over 100 yards in three of the first four games, and for at least 95 yards in each contest. He hasn't topped 100 yards since the win over Central Michigan, but he did rack up 95 yards and two touchdowns in the 48-20 win over USC.

Alt has been an outstanding player all season for the Notre Dame offense. According to Pro Football Focus, Alt has allowed just one sack and three quarterback hurries all season. He is also PFF's second highest ranked offensive tackle so far this season.

Cross has been Notre Dame's most consistently dominant player all season. He is second on the Irish defense with 45 tackles and leads the defense with 5.5 tackles for loss. He's also second on the defense with two forced fumbles, trailing only Cam Hart, who has also played like an All-American this season. Cross is PFF's highest graded defensive tackle so far this season.

Estime and Cross also earned first-team honors from ESPN while Alt was second team, and Alt and Estime earned first team honors from CBS Sports.
