Notre Dame kicks its 2023 season off in just four days, but the preseason honors continue to roll in for a pair of Fighting Irish stars. Offensive tackle Joe Alt and cornerback Benjamin Morrison were named preseason All-Americans this week by both Sporting News and the Associated Press.

Alt was named to the first-team for both the Associated Press and Sporting News. Being an AP first-team All-American isn't a surprise for Alt, who earned postseason All-American honors from them following the 2022 campaign. Alt was a second-team All-American on the Sporting News All-American team after the 2022 season.

"Alt was the No. 2 tackle according to Pro Football Focus with a pass blocking grade of 91.4. He allowed just six quarterback hurries and no sacks, and he's become the latest star on the offensive line that has produced Consensus All-Americans Ronnie Stanley, Quenton Nelson, Mike McGlinchey and Liam Eichenberg in the last 10 seasons. Alt will get big-stage games against Ohio State, USC and Clemson as he aims for the Outland Trophy." - Bill Bender, Sporting News

Alt has been a consensus first-team preseason All-American and is regarded by many as the best returning offensive tackle in college football.

Morrison was named to the second team All-American squad from both the AP and Sporting News. He was a freshman All-American in 2022 after a brilliant rookie season. Morrison picked off six passes and broke up four more as he emerged as one of the best cover players in college football. Morrison's outstanding rookie season came against a schedule that had quarterbacks Caleb Williams (USC), CJ Stroud (Ohio State), Drake Maye (North Carolina), Spencer Rattler (South Carolina) and DJ Uiagalelei (Clemson).

Morrison being on these lists is impressive when you consider how many top-ranked corners return in 2023.
