Notre Dame Tackle Joe Alt Earns Walter Camp All-American Honors
Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt continues to rack up postseason honors, this time earning first-team All-American honors from Walter Camp.
This is the fifth outlet to name Alt a first-team All-American, with Walter Camp joining CBS Sports, USA TODAY, Th Athletic and Pro Football Focus. This one has a bit more impact, however, as Walter Camp is the first of five All-America teams that impacts the unanimous and consensus All-America team.
Alt earned second-team honors from Walter Camp in 2022, but he was an easy choice for first team in 2023.
The Minnesota native has had a brilliant career at Notre Dame. He took over halfway through his freshman season and finished that season by earning Freshman All-American honors. He broke out as one of the best blockers in college football in 2022, which created sky high expectations for him in 2023.
Alt more than lived up to expectations this fall, and he quickly proved he's not only one of the best tackles in football, he's arguably the very best. The junior allowed just one sack this season and he didn't allow a single sack as a sophomore in 2022. According to Pro Football Focus, Alt allowed just five total pressures all season.
While the line around him played up and down most of the season, Alt remained a steady force on the left side of the line. He was not only a stellar pass blocker, Alt also developed into a strong run blocker, making him an all-around dominant player.
Should Alt continue piling up first-team honors he would become Notre Dame's first unanimous All-American along the offensive line since Quenton Nelson earned it back in 2017. He would be the team's first overall unanimous All-American since Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah in 2020.
