Notre Dame has found its placekicker for the 2024 season with former South Carolina standout Mitch Jeter announcing his plans to transfer to the Fighting Irish.

Landing Jeter means Notre Dame will have a one-year transfer kicker for the third straight season. Jeter follows Blake Grupe (Arkansas State) and Spencer Shrader (South Florida).

Jeter was South Carolina's starting place kicker in each of the last two seasons, and he was their kickoff specialists for the last four seasons. Over the last two years, Jeter nailed 23 of 25 field goal attempts and he's hit 75-78 extra point attempts.

The 5-10, 194-place kicker was a perfect 21-21 on field goals of less than 50 yards the last two seasons. That includes him nailing all four of his field goal attempts from 40-49 yards. Jeter went just 1-3 on field goals from 50+ yards this season, but he was 2-2 in 2022, making him 3-5 on field goal attempts of 50 yards or more the last two seasons.

Jeter lacks the powerful leg that Shrader showed this season, but he's been impressively accurate, reminding me very much of former Irish star place kicker Justin Yoon. Yoon is Notre Dame's all-time leader in field goal percentage, drilling 80.8% of his field goals for the Irish. Jeter has hit 92.0% of his kicks the last two seasons.

He has shown the ability to put the ball in the end zone effectively on kick offs, with 66.4% of his kickoffs reaching the end zone for touchbacks. Shrader put 63.8% of his kickoffs into the end zone this season, and Zac Yoakam put 61.6% of his kickoffs into the end zone in 2022.

Jeter nailed a 45-yard field goal against Notre Dame in last season's Gator Bowl, and he also hit all five of his extra points that season.
