Notre Dame Football Mailbag
With the season set to start next week, Irish Breakdown had its final Notre Dame Football Mailbag of the offseason. Next week we kick off our in-season content. It was a great mailbag thanks to loads of excellent questions from IB subscribers and listeners.
It was a long show, so we broke it into four segments.
MAILBAG - PART I
Here are some of the topics in part one:
*** The show kicks off with some conversation on the Notre Dame freshman class. It begins with a discussion about elite rookie lineman Charles Jagusah and then dives into the class as a whole.
*** We discussed the roles for veteran big ends Javontae Jean-Baptiste and NaNa Osafo-Mensah, including how that duo fits together.
*** The biggest needs in the 2025 class, as well as an early look at where things stand in that recruiting cycle are discussed.
*** A discussion about the positions where Notre Dame is best suited to sustain a major injury, and areas where an injury could have the biggest impact.
MAILBAG - PART II
Here are some of the topics in part one:
*** We had some harsh words for people who say you can't be a fan of a school that you didn't attend.
*** The speed, or perceived lack of speed, at the wide receiver position outside of Chris Tyree.
*** Thoughts on quarterback Kenny Minchey vs. Steve Angeli.
*** Expectations and areas where defensive end Jordan Botelho must improve now that he's the starting Vyper.
*** A look at Notre Dame's top NFL prospects.
MAILBAG - PART III
Here are some of the topics in part one:
*** We are asked about whether or not Alabama has a chance to compete for a national championship in 2023 in spite of their perceived issues at quarterback and wide receiver.
*** The potential impact of sophomore tight end Holden Staes and sophomore defensive end Josh Burnham.
*** There was a discussion about wide receiver Deion Colzie and what he might contribute in 2023.
*** We were asked about potential breakouts from players that did not get much playing time in past seasons.
*** A discussion about how new play clock rules could impact scoring numbers, and what statistics we'll look for to determine how effective the Notre Dame offense is this season.
MAILBAG - PART IV
Here are some of the topics in part one:
*** There is a lengthy discussion about the state of recruiting at Notre Dame, and why we believe things are certainly trending in a really good direction ever since Marcus Freeman arrived.
*** Expectations for first-year offensive coordinator Gerad Parker.
*** How we believe the post-season should be formatted in a way that incorporates the bowls and a playoff system.
*** Predictions for who will lead the Notre Dame defense in tackles for loss, sacks, interceptions and forced fumbles.
