Notre Dame Moves Up To No. 12 In Coaches Poll

The Fighting Irish are back up two spots this week

Notre Dame (7-2) moved up in this week’s US LBM AFCA Coaches Poll. The Fighting Irish moved up two spots from No. 14 to 12 after Saturday’s 58-7 win over Pittsburgh.

The top five teams remained unchanged from last week. Georgia (8-0) stays at No. 1 after beating Florida 43-20. The Bulldogs again garnered 58 first-place votes while Michigan stayed No. 2 after its bye week. The Wolverines garnered three first-place votes. Ohio State beat Wisconsin to stay at No. 3 and took three first-places votes. Florida State remains No. 4 after beating Wake Forest and Washington holds at No. 5 after holding off Stanford 42-33.

Oklahoma falls out of the top 10 from No. 6 to No. 11 after suffering its first loss. The Sooners saw an 18-game winning streak to Kansas snapped with a 38-33 loss on Saturday. The Jayhawks moved back into the poll at No. 23 after their first win over a top 10 team in 15 years.

Texas is No. 6, followed by Oregon, Alabama, Penn State, and Ole Miss to round out the top 10.

Two former Irish opponents, Duke and Louisville, met as ranked teams on Saturday, with Louisville winning 23-0. It moved the Cardinals up from No. 18 to No. 15 this week, while the Blue Devils fell from No. 21 to out of the poll.

Besides No. 3 Ohio State, Southern Cal is the only other ranked Notre Dame opponent in this week’s poll. The Trojans overcame a 14-point deficit to beat Cal 50-49 and held at No. 22 this week.

North Carolina suffered a second straight loss, falling 46-42 to Georgia Tech and just managed to stay in the poll at No. 25.
