Irish Breakdown has learned that Notre Dame offensive coordinator Gerad Parker is expected to leave the program for the head coach position at Troy. ESPN's Pete Thamel has confirmed this news, which was first reported by Irish Illustrated.

Parker came to Notre Dame as the tight end's coach prior to the 2022 season as the tight end's coach. He helped Michael Mayer develop into an All-American that season, and was promoted to offensive coordinator this past offseason.

In his first season as offensive coordinator, Parker guided an offense that scored 39.1 points per game and averaged 6.95 yards per play. If those numbers hold it would set an all-time single-season modern era scoring record for Notre Dame, which had previously been set back in 1968.

Notre Dame tight end Mitchell Evans also became a breakout star this season prior to his knee injury in early November. We saw two different Notre Dame tight ends rack up over 100 yards in a game this season, with Evans and Holden Staes both achieving that mark.

There were some up and down moments, but Notre Dame finished the season on a very strong note, scoring 45 points in a win over Wake Forest and 56 points in a win over Stanford. Notre Dame scored over 40 points eight times this season, and the Irish averaged 45.8 points per game in their nine victories.

Should this move be finalized as quickly as expected, current quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli would likely be promoted to offensive coordinator for the bowl game before a search for the OC position begins in earnest. According to sources, Notre Dame has in fact reached out to other outside candidates about this position.
