Notre Dame Football Practice Report: Breaking Down The Fall Camp Opener

Irish Breakdown discusses the first Notre Dame football practice of the 2023 season

Notre Dame kicked off the 2023 football season with its first practice of fall camp. The practice session was open to the media, and Irish Breakdown was there to see it all. Following the practice session we broke down everything we saw on offense, defense, special teams and from a big picture standpoint.

Here are some themes and topics we discussed in the show:

*** Notre Dame had a different look on day one, which kicked off year two of the Marcus Freeman era. This team seems bigger and much faster than last year's squad.

*** After our intro we talked about the Notre Dame offense and what we saw from offensive coordinator Gerad Parker in his first practice.

*** The quarterbacks were a big topic of conversation. We discussed what we saw from Sam Hartman now that he's entrenched as the starter, and what we liked from young signal callers Steve Angeli and Kenny Minchey.

*** Notre Dame has a loaded running back room, and we spent plenty of time talking about how impressive the group of Jadarian Price, Gi'Bran Payne, Jeremiyah Love and others were during practice.

*** It was an up-and-down day from the Irish wideouts, and we spent a lot of time on what we saw from senior Chris Tyree (who was outstanding), and what we saw from talented sophomore Tobias Merriweather and freshman Jaden Greathouse.

*** The Notre Dame corners have very good day one sessions, especially preseason All-American corner Benjamin Morrison and classmate Jaden Mickey.

*** Linebacker Jack Kiser was a standout on the second level.

*** At safety, we spent a lot of time talking about how good senior Xavier Watts was during the open session.
