Notre Dame Ranks 10th In Sporting News Post-Spring Top 25

Notre Dame is ranked 10th in the post-spring Top 25 from Sporting News

Sporting News released its post-spring Top 25 and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish ranked 10th in the new rankings. It was up from 13th in first 2023 ranking from Sporting News.

Here is what author Bill Bender had to say about the reason why Notre Dame jumped up three spots in the latest rankings.

"(TommyRees took the Alabama job, and (Tyler) Buchner followed. Second-year coach Marcus Freeman hired Gerad Parker as offensive coordinator. Running back Logan Diggs and receiver Lorenzo Styles were among the high-profile players who transferred this spring."

"The Irish won nine games in Freeman's first year, and Wake Forest transfer quarterback Sam Hartman took hold of the starting job in the spring. Hartman had a ACC record-setting career with the Demon Deacons. Audric Estime leads the running back committee, and freshman Jaden Greathouse should be an early-impact receiver. Future first-round pick Joe Alt anchors the offensive line. Cornerback Benjamin Morrison leads a rebuilt defense. The big-ticket games against Ohio State (Sept. 23), USC (Oct. 14) and Clemson (Nov. 4) are the pivot points."

The arrival of Hartman has certainly raised expectations for Notre Dame, who had plenty of weapons a season ago, but they lacked the trigger man. Only the ESPN Football Power Index has the Fighting Irish ranked higher than what we see from Sporting News.

A pair of Notre Dame opponents were ranked ahead of the Irish in the latest ranking. Ohio State checked in at No. 4 in the ranking and USC ranked No. 6. Notre Dame travels to Clemson in early November, and the Tigers are ranked No. 13 in the rankings.

Notre Dame plays Ohio State and USC at home, and play Clemson on the road.
