Notre Dame Tackle Robert Hainsey Has A Significant Ankle Injury

Notre Dame Tackle Robert Hainsey Injures Ankle
Angela Driskell

On Notre Dame's second series of its matchup against Virginia Tech, the Irish lost right tackle Robert Hainsey for the game.

The Irish ran a counter play and Hainsey - who pulled to his left on the play - had his left leg rolled on and it bent back awkwardly. Hainsey immediately went to the ground in pain and was helped off the field. He could not put pressure on the leg.

Hainsey went to the locker room, and when he returned to the sideline he was no longer wearing pads. He is done for the game.

Hainsey was replaced by junior Joshua Lugg. With right guard Tommy Kraemer already out, the right side of the offensive line is now missing both starters.

4:18 PM UPDATE: Just talked to a source that said Hainsey injured his ankle, and it's a severe injury. No official word from Notre Dame, but according to the source I spoke with it is a significant injury that will likely keep the junior out for some time.
