Notre Dame Stars Joe Alt and Benjamin Morrison Are Named Athlon Preseason All-Americans

Athlon Sports named Notre Dame standouts Joe Alt and Benjamin Morrison to its preseason All-American team

Notre Dame standouts Joe Alt and Benjamin Morrison continue to rack up preseason All-America honors, this time being named to the Athlon Sports preseason squad.

Alt was named to the first-team offensive line, while Morrison was named to the third team.

Notre Dame's left tackle is a no brainer for preseason All-American teams after being named a first-team All-American last season by the Associated Press (1st team), Pro Football Focus (1st team), CBS Sports (1st team), ESPN (1st team), Sporting News (2nd team), Football Writers Association of America (2nd team), AFCA (2nd team), USA TODAY (2nd team) and The Athletic (2nd team).

Alt was outstanding for the Irish last season, dominating as a pass blocker and continuing to improve as a run blocker. By season's end Alt was outstanding in all phases of the game. Now a junior, Alt is expected to compete for the top spot among the nation's offensive tackles.

Morrison was a Freshman All-American last season after a brilliant rookie season. The Arizona native intercepted six passes, all of which came during the season half of the season. Morrison picked off two passes in Notre Dame's 35-14 win over Clemson, returning the second 96 yards for a touchdown.

His six interceptions was the most by a Notre Dame player since Manti Te'o picked off seven passes back in 2012, and his three interceptions in the 44-0 win over Boston College tied a Notre Dame single season record.

Several Notre Dame opponents were also named All-Americans by Athlon Sports.

Ohio State led the way with six All-American, including four on the first team. Wide receives Marvin Harrison Jr. an Emeka Egbuka were joined on the first team by defensive lineman JT Tuimoloau and linebacker Tommy Eichenberg. Running back TreVeyon Henderson and offensive lineman Donovan Jackson were named to the third team.

Clemson was next with four players on the All-America list. Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter was the lone first team player for the Tigers, but running back Will Shipley, defensive tackle Tyler Davis and linebacker Barrett Carter were named to the second team.

USC has three players named to the All-America squad. Quarterback Caleb Williams was named to the first team while wide receiver Dorian Singer and safety Caleb Bullock was named to the second team.

Stanford placekicker Joshua Karty was named a first-team All-American while Duke offensive lineman Graham Barton was named to the second team.
