Notre Dame hired Mike Brown as the program's new wide receivers coach, and for the first time Brown was able to meet with the media as a member of the Irish staff. Brown shared insight on what he focuses on as a coach and the current Irish roster.

Here are some key takeaways from Brown's first press conference.

On what he wants his unit to be known for:

"To me it's about consistently and constantly getting better," Brown noted. "As you watch your group .... and you watch where they start, whether that's from the beginning of a year to the end of a year, or from the beginning of their careers to the end of their careers, is there improvement, constant improvement."

".... Just helping them become the best players and young men they can become."

On the current group of wide receiver:

"I've only seen them a couple practices, and I've watched a little bit of film, but I try to come in with a clean slate and an open mind as I work with them," Brown stated. "The things that I'm teaching may be different from what they learned. That doesn't make them right, it doesn't make them wrong, but when they are hearing things that are different it's going to take some time to adjust to it.

"I think there is some talent in the room, there's a lot of youth in there, so I'm excited to watch them grow, I'm excited to watch them learn. They're all great young men and they're all really, really hungry and eager to learn."

More on the current room:

"The thing I've been mostly impressed about is their work ethic, number one, and their eagerness to learn," Brown explained. "We're in meetings, you know I'm talking, and everybody's locked in, they are hungry and eager to learn. Obviously they're really, really smart young men. It makes it exciting to work with guys like that .... and they all root for each other."
