Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt continues to pile up postseason honors, with the latest being the Football Writers Association of America naming him to their first-team All-American squad.

Alt has now earned first-team honors from Walter Camp, The Athletic, CBS Sports, USA TODAY Sports and Pro Football Focus. The FWAA and Walter Camp teams are two of the five that factor into consensus and unanimous All-American honors. To be a unanimous All-American a player needs to earn first-team honors from all five, while consensus requires just three.

The Minnesota native has had a brilliant career at Notre Dame. He took over halfway through his freshman season and finished that season by earning Freshman All-American honors. He broke out as one of the best blockers in college football in 2022, which created sky high expectations for him in 2023.

Alt more than lived up to expectations this fall, and he quickly proved he's not only one of the best tackles in football, he's arguably the very best. The junior allowed just one sack this season and he didn't allow a single sack as a sophomore in 2022. According to Pro Football Focus, Alt allowed just five total pressures all season.

While the line around him played up and down most of the season, Alt remained a steady force on the left side of the line. He was not only a stellar pass blocker, Alt also developed into a strong run blocker, making him an all-around dominant player.

Alt is the latest first-team All-American left tackle for Notre Dame, continuing the team's tradition of brilliant at left tackle in the last decade. Alt is the fourth straight left tackle to earn first-team All-American honors, joining Liam Eichenberg (2020), Mike McGlinchey (2017) and Ronnie Stanley (2015).
