Forward Carey Booth Commits To Notre Dame Basketball
Micah Shrewsberry’s rebuild of the Notre Dame men’s basketball roster continues to gain momentum. A day after his son, Braeden Shrewsberry, became the first high school player to commit to commit to the new Irish head coach Shrewsberry picked up another high school commitment from 6-10 forward Carey Booth.
Booth is a 2023 top 100 recruit who signed with Penn State when Shrewsberry was still the head coach there. He was released from his national letter of intent in March after Shrewsberry left to take over at Notre Dame. He was also recruited by Arizona State, Colorado State and Florida.
The son of former 11-year NBA player and current Denver Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth, Booth is originally from Englewood, Colo and started his prep career at Cherry Creek High School in the Denver suburbs but finished his pre-college career at Brewster Academy prep school in New Hampshire.
Booth is a long and athletic power forward who can stretch the floor. His skillset has been sorely missing from Fighting Irish lineups in recent years. He averaged 10.6 points and 7.7 rebounds in 22 games at Brewster this season.
The incoming Irish freshman class now consists of Booth, the younger Shrewsberry and point guard Markus Burton, who was recently named Indiana Mr. Basketball. The Irish also signed Northwestern guard Julian Roper II last month. JR Konieczny, Matt Zona and Tony Sanders Jr are the only holdover scholarship players who are still on the Notre Dame roster, making Booth the seventh scholarship player for Shrewsberry on the 2023-2024 roster.
