Notre Dame has announced its team captains for the 2023 college football season. The Fighting Irish kick off the 2023 season in less than two weeks, and we'll find out what this team is made of. What is no longer in question is who are the top leader for this team.

Notre Dame announced that linebacker JD Bertrand, cornerback Cam Hart, quarterback Sam Hartman and left tackle Joe Alt have been named team captains.

Bertrand - a fifth-year senior - is now a Notre Dame captain for a second straight season. He has led Notre Dame in tackles in each of the last two seasons, racking up 183 tackles (108 solo stops) and 15.5 tackles for loss.

Hart is a first time captain after emerging as one of the team's top defenders a season ago. He emerged as a leader on the defense during this offseason and he'll finish his career as a team captain. A two-year starter, Hart registered 66 tackles, 11 pass break ups and two interceptions the last two seasons.

Hartman is a captain for the third time, but it's his first with Notre Dame. A two-year captain at Wake Forest, Hartman quickly won over the Irish locker room and has been voted a captain by his new teammates.

Alt is the youngest captain for the 2023 Notre Dame squad. Hartman is a sixth-year senior, Hart and Bertrand are both fifth-year seniors, but Alt is a true junior. A preseason first-team All-American, Alt has clearly emerged as a leader for the Notre Dame football team.

Notre Dame named six captains last season, but the Irish chose just four for the 2023 season.

Notre Dame kicks off the 2023 season on Saturday, August 26th when they play Navy in Dublin, Ireland.
