Notre Dame (3-0) heads home this weekend to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas (1-1). It's an opportunity for the 9th-ranked Fighting Irish to build on their outstanding start to the season.

Let's take a first glance look at Central Michigan.

HEAD COACH: Jim McElwain

CMU Record: 25-22 (5th season)
Overall Record: 69-49 (11th season)

McElwain is in his fifth season at Central Michigan. He has led the Chippewas to a pair of bowl games (2019, 2021). In 2021, Central Michigan beat Washington State in the Sun Bowl. Prior to his time at CMU, McElwain was the head coach at Florida for three seasons. After going 19-8 in his first two seasons, he was fired in his third season after starting 3-4. Florida played for the SEC title in his first season, but the Gators lost to Alabama. He went 22-15 in three seasons at Colorado State (2012-14), including a 10-2 record in his third season.

McElwain spent four seasons at Alabama prior to getting his first head coaching position. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Tide from 2008-11. McElwain was the offensive coordinator for two Alabama national championship teams (2009, 2011).
