Notre Dame Opponent Preview: Wake Forest Demon Deacons

A look at the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, the next opponent on the Notre Dame schedule

Notre Dame (7-3) will look to get back on track this weekend when it finishes up its home schedule against the struggling Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Notre Dame is looking to overcome its loss to Clemson, while the Deacons have lost six of their last seven games.

HEAD COACH - Dave Clawson

Record at Wake Forest: 63-58 (10th season)
Overall Record: 153-138 (24th season)

Wake Forest is going through a rough season but it doesn't take away from the excellent job Clawson has done in his 10 years in charge. Clawson has led Wake Forest to seven straight bowl games, and his team's are 5-2 in that span. The Deacons' best season under Clawson was 2021 when he led them to an 11-3 record and a trip to the ACC title game.

He went 32-31 in five seasons at Bowling Green, including a 10-3 record in 2013, his final season at the MAC school. Prior to that he spent four seasons at Richmond, where he went 29-20. In his fourth and final season, Clawson led the Spiders to an 11-3 record and a trip to the national semi-finals of the NCAA Tournament. It was the second time he led Richmond to the postseason.

Clawson got his start at Fordham, where he went 29-29. After going 0-11 in his first season and just 3-8 in year two, Clawson led the Rams to three straight winning seasons. His best campaign was in 2002 when he led Fordham to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, finishing with a 10-3 record.
