What A Gerad Parker Offense Will Look Like At Notre Dame

Breaking down what the Notre Dame offense might look like under Gerad Parker

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman will hire tight ends coach Gerad Parker to be the next offensive coordinator for the Irish offense. Parker served as the offensive coordinator at West Virginia for two seasons, but the offense he will run at Notre Dame will look much different than what we saw in Morgantown.

Just what Parker will run remains to be seen, but after talking to many sources we have started to get an idea of what the structure of what Parker's offense will look like. We broke that down in the latest video.

Freeman has a strong idea what he wants on offense, and Parker will fit that mold. Freeman wants a pro-style offense that thrives on run-pass balance, physicality and one that can complement the Irish defensive philosophy. Parker will embrace that identity.

From a personnel standpoint, Notre Dame will look similar to what it has been in past seasons, with 11 and 12 personnel being the primary emphasis, but we will also see two-back alignments (21 personnel) at times as well.

As a pro style offense, you can expect Parker to utilize motions and shifts in order to gain leverage and numbers advantages, and to keep the defense off balance prior to the snap.

From a pass game standpoint, expect to see a strong play-action package and we'll see more RPO (Run Pass Option) concepts built into the offense, which will be a very welcome sight for me compared to what we saw from previous coordinator Tommy Rees. That should help protect the Irish run game, and also give the offense more ability to attack the perimeter of the defense and create more efficient throwing opportunities for quarterbacks.

The specifics of the pass game remain to be seen, but you can expect to see a good dose of play-action throws and more wide receiver friendly concepts from Parker's offense.
