Elite Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa Commits To Notre Dame
Notre Dame has landed a major commitment with Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco standout linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa pledging to the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame beat out Ohio State and rival USC to land this big-time linebacker.
This is an important commitment for Notre Dame and head coach Marcus Freeman, who fueled this recruitment. Notre Dame has not won many battles against Ohio State over the last decade, and that's especially true on defense. The Buckeyes had been considered the leader for Viliamu-Asa for some time, but the Irish coaches, led by Freeman, defensive line coach Al Washington, and linebackers coach Al Golden, kept working hard on him for over a year.
Notre Dame put their best foot forward with Viliamu-Asa, but even as recently as this week sources around Ohio State felt very confident they would land the 6-2, 230-pound standout backer. Notre Dame coaches stayed on it, and in the end they won the day.
Viliamu-Asa is the third linebacker to commit to Notre Dame in the 2024 class as he joins Virginia athlete Bodie Kahoun and Nebraska backer Teddy Rezac. It also continues the strong linebacker recruiting we've seen from the Fighting Irish program since Freeman arrived with the program.
This is also the first player to commit to Notre Dame from St. John Bosco since DJ Morgan signed back in 2016.
The St. John Bosco star is ranked as the nation's No. 35 overall player and No. 3 linebacker according to Rivals, who also ranked him as the No. 6 player in the state of California. He was also ranked as the nation's No. 87 overall player according to 247Sports. Viliamu-Asa also earned a Top 100 grade on the Irish Breakdown board and a 4.5-star upside grade (Top 50 caliber player).
Viliamu-Asa also had offers from Georgia, Alabama, Texas, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Miami (Fla.), Penn State, Oregon, UCLA, Washington, Auburn, Ole Miss, Louisville, Michigan State, Stanford, Oregon State, Boston College, Arizona, Washington State and Kansas.
