Elite Tight End Nate Roberts Commits To Notre Dame
Notre Dame picked up a huge commitment today with elite tight end Nate Roberts pledging to the Fighting Irish. The Washington (Okla.) High School standout picked Notre Dame over Oklahoma, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson, Baylor and Auburn among many others.
"I've always dreamed of being Irish, so now that it's actually happening it's blessing," Roberts told Irish Breakdown about his commitment to Notre Dame. "Growing up in Northern Oklahoma, I'm supposed to be a Sooner fan, I grew up a Sooner fan also, but the Irish have always been a big school that I've looked up to, and I've always wanted to go play for them. It's really awesome to finally have that opportunity to play for them, and I'm really blessed."
Roberts quickly became the top tight end target on the board for Notre Dame in the 2025 class. That's impressive when you consider how loaded the 2025 tight end class is from a national standpoint. Roberts made two trips to Notre Dame in the last two months, making his first trip to campus in April and then returning again this past week.
Instead of letting the process play out, Roberts knew where he wanted to go and he was ready to let everyone know.
"After my first visit to Notre Dame I felt something different than these other schools, I felt like that was really my home" explained the talented tight end. "That second trip just blew it out of the park. I checked all my boxes and felt there was no need to wait."
The entire Roberts family was on board with this decision.
"They actually loved it, and it was definitely number one on their list too," Roberts said of his parents view on the Irish. "Right after the visit we left and had a big talk about definitely considering Notre Dame and would this be the number one spot for you and checks all the boxes for you. Just everything about Notre Dame, the campus, the academics, the coaching staff, 'Tight End U', it's just amazing and I can't get that anywhere else but Notre Dame."
That history of Notre Dame producing big time tight ends played a key role, and how the Irish use the tight ends in the offense.
"In my recruiting process, the usage of tight ends was probably going to be the biggest priority for me," Roberts explained. "I wanted a school that's not just 10 and 11 personnel, I wanted a school that's 11, 12 and 13 personnel, and Notre Dame definitely has that. Their way that they've been sending tight ends to the league, you can't get that anywhere else."
A consensus four-star recruit, Roberts is ranked as the No. 55 overall player in the country according to 247Sports. He is ranked as the nation's No. 3 tight end by 247Sports and ESPN. Roberts earned a 4.0-star grade and a Top 100 prospect ranking from Irish Breakdown, and he's a borderline 4.5-star recruit. Roberts also earned a 5.0-star upside grade, which is rare on our scale for a sophomore.
Roberts has an outstanding offer list, earning scholarships from the Irish, Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Penn State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Auburn, Wisconsin, Arkansas, TCU, Baylor, Missouri, Louisville, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Washington State and Kansas.
