Notre Dame's talented 2024 recruiting class took a hit today as Warner Robins (Ga.) High School wide receiver Isiah Canion de-committed from the program.

Canion announced his decision on Twitter.

Canion committed to Notre Dame back in April and seemed solid, but within the last several days he informed the Notre Dame staff he was not going to be part of the class. According to a source, distance from home was the primary factor, and his family was not going to be able to travel to games if he played at Notre Dame.

Right now Canion doesn't have another school he is ready to flip to and his recruitment is back open, which tracks with the distance issue being one that could not be overcome.

Canion played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back for Warner Robins. As a wide receiver his junior season he caught 26 passes for 395 yards and six touchdowns and passed for 584 yards and five touchdowns as a quarterback. A talented player with a lot of upside, Canion was a key part of the talented Notre Dame 2024 offensive class, so this is certainly a loss for the Irish staff, who turned down other talented players knowing they had Canion in the class.

Notre Dame still has commitments from two other very talented wide receivers in the 2024 class, with Illinois star Cam Williams and North Carolina standout Micah Gilbert remaining in the class. Notre Dame wants three receivers in the class so they will need to go back to the drawing board a bit to fill the void that is left by Canion's decommitment.
