Jerome Bettis Jr. Knows The Magnitude Of An Offer From Notre Dame

Notre Dame legacy Jerome Bettis Jr. talks Irish offer with return visit for Blue-Gold Game already solidified

When Notre Dame launched its Pot of Gold offer event for the 2025 class there was one name that certainly stood out to Notre Dame fans. That would be Atlanta (Ga.) Woodward Academy wide receiver Jerome Bettis Jr., who is sure to send Irish fans and supporters down memory lane.

That last name Bettis quickly brings back visions of some of the better days in Notre Dame fandom. His father was one of the premier players to ever dawn the Blue and Gold.

Now it is time for Jerome Jr. to go through his own recruiting process, and he appreciates the magnitude of getting an offer from Notre Dame as much, if not more than anyone.

"It was surreal,” Bettis said of the Irish offer. "It was amazing. I actually received the offer from Coach (Chansi) Stuckey via a phone call. We have been checking in on a weekly basis. .... It was like a normal phone call. We started catching up and he said he was getting right to it. He told me that I had received an offer and immediately I was shocked.

"Going into the phone call, that is not what I was expecting,” Bettis continued. "At first I couldn’t even speak. Coach Stuckey thought he couldn’t hear me over the phone so it took me a minute to collect my thoughts. I got back to him, said thank you and all of that. Immediately after I ran and told my dad. After I told him, we both got excited about it. We had a moment and that was pretty cool. It was amazing.”

Getting that call, and receiving that offer, was a dream come true. It was even more special to know that he had garnered that honor based on his talent as a football player, and not just his last name. The staff made him well aware of that fact.

“I did talk to Chad Bowden, the head of recruiting, and one of the things he wanted to assure me on was that they were calling me because of me and not necessarily because of my father,” Bettis explained. “That was something that was super special to me that they were emphasizing that they wanted me as a football player and a person, rather than just my name. That was super important to me and special.

"It was super special,” Bettis continued. "Being raised a Notre Dame fan, growing up in that environment, I’ve been a fan since I was as long as I can remember really. Being in that environment, I always wanted to be a Notre Dame football player and wear the Blue and Gold since I was a little kid. It has been a dream of mine watching on Saturdays ever since I was young.”

As is the case with it seems like every wide receiver on the board, Bettis has a high opinion early of Stuckey. The two have developed a quick relationship, which shouldn’t be a big surprise as two wide receivers with Georgia ties.

"Getting to know Coach Stuckey has been amazing,” he said. "He’s obviously a great guy and a great coach. With his ties to Georgia, we actually do know a couple of the same people. The first time I was on the phone with him, he mentioned that he knew my wide receiver coach now when he was young in Georgia. Just getting to know him has been great. “

Bettis currently holds offers from the Irish, Arkansas and Boston college among others. The 6-2, 175-pounder was active taking game day visits this past fall. He has been to Georgia Tech and Florida during that season, as well as having visited the Horseshoe for the Ohio State versus Notre Dame game.

He was recently on campus at Ohio State a couple of weekends ago. Bettis also will be heading out to Oregon at the end of the month, as well as heading to Notre Dame on April 22nd for the Blue-Gold Game.
