Notre Dame has added another important piece to its No. 1 ranked 2025 recruiting class by landing a commitment from Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph Prep star linebacker Anthony Sacca. The 6-3, 225-pound defender picked Notre Dame over Alabama, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Duke.

The Fighting Irish coaching staff has been recruiting Sacca for over two years, and there was a lot of work put into landing this commitment. Sacca was first offered on December 14th back in 2021. Since that time the Pennsylvania standout visited on multiple occasions and has been a top target for the staff.

Sacca was a dominant safety as a sophomore, but linebacker was always the projection. As a junior he added a bit more weight and moved down to linebacker. During the 2023 season, Sacca was a key member of the St. Joseph Prep squad that went 13-1 and advanced to the state title game. Sacca racked up 67 tackles and two interceptions for a defense that allowed just 133 points all season.

Sacca is ranked as the nation's No. 57 overall player and the No. 7 outside linebacker according to Rivals. The talented athlete earned offers from Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Florida State, USC, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami (Fla.), Nebraska, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, South Carolina, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Maryland, Duke, Rutgers and Syracuse.

Sacca joins a linebacker class that also has Hawaii standout Josiah Kia. The Irish also landed a commitment from Illinois defender Dominik Hulak, who is more of a hybrid player, but he's a big time high school linebacker. The Irish also have commitments from elite quarterback Deuce Knight, running backs Justin Thurman and Daniel Anderson, wide receivers Elijah Burress, Shaun Terry and Jerome Bettis Jr., tight end James Flanigan, offensive linemen Owen Strebig, Will Black and Matty Augustine, defensive linemen Christopher Burgess Jr., Davion Dixon and Joseph Reiff, cornerback Cree Thomas, and safeties Ivan Taylor and Ethan Long.

Sacca is the son of former Penn State quarterback Tony Sacca, who was a college teammate of Al Golden, who played tight end for the Nittany Lions.
