Linebacker Chris Cole Sees The Notre Dame Fit Heading Into Official Visit

Dynamic 2024 linebacker Chris Cole previews his official visit to Notre Dame

Heading into the month of June, there are several important recruits who are slated to officially visit Notre Dame. One of the more intriguing visitors is 2024 Salem (Va.) High School linebacker Chris Cole, who is slated to be on campus on June 9-11.

This will be Cole’s third trip to South Bend, who most recently visited for the Blue-Gold Game weekend. The upcoming trip offers the ability to take a deeper look into everything the program is about, as well as exploring the surroundings more.

"I am looking forward to seeing more of the campus and spending some time with the coaches and players,” Cole told Irish Breakdown.

Coming into the trip, Cole’s timeline to make a decision is still very well known. There’s little question that Notre Dame should be in it until the end.

"My timeline is still the same,” Cole explained. "I hope to have a decision made late summer or early fall. Notre Dame is a great program with an outstanding academic opportunity and alumni base so they definitely stand high on my list. I’m also considering a fall game visit.

The Virginia native sees himself as a potential strong fit at Notre Dame.

"I’m a determined self driven student athlete that has always pursued excellence on and off the field,” he continued. "Notre Dame’s overall philosophy falls in line with what I’m pursuing on the field and in life after football.”

There have been a lot of recruiting question marks around linebacker recruiting in the 2024 class. That includes Al Golden, who has needed to be more engaged in the process and players on the board. Cole is one player that he has made a concerted effort to impress.

"Coach Golden came out this spring to visit and we talk frequently,” Cole stated. "The overall message from the coaches is I’m a great athlete with a unique set of skills, size, and speed. I definitely could make a difference on the Notre Dame defense. Plus academically I’m the type of player they want on their team.”

There aren’t many more physically gifted linebackers in the 2024 recruiting class than Cole. It will be interesting to see just how hard the Irish staff pushes down the stretch, including during this official visit.

Cole currently holds an impressive offer list. Some of the notable programs that have extended offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, Miami, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Auburn, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Duke, Vanderbilt and West Virginia among others.

The recruiting rankings are finally starting to match Cole’s impressive game and elite offer list. In a recent ranking update, Cole rose to the No. 65 overall player and No. 6 linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class according to 247Sports. That ranking has Cole pegged as the top overall player in the state of Virginia.
