Notre Dame Standing Out For Top Linebacker Target Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa

Star 2024 linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa goes in depth on relationship with Notre Dame

There is no bigger must get player on the Notre Dame linebacker board than Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, who is the type of impact middle linebacker that the program desperately needs more of.

He has been a player who is not new to the recruiting process. It all began when he was a freshman and started pulling out a flurry of offers.

“Everything has been good lately,” Viliamu-Asa said. “I am back working out with the team. As this 2023 cycle finishes up, more teams are starting to focus on the 2024 class. I am just letting it play out, embracing the process and taking it day by day.

“For me, the process started early on,” he continued. “I didn’t really get stressed over it. I just stayed in contact with the coaches but at the same time, handling my school work and my social life at home. It is just really time management and keeping your priorities straight.”

The month of April promises to be a busy one for the California star. As of now, the timeline is to make a decision before his senior year begins. There are a lot of schools to do his homework on and to figure out the right fit.

“Right now, I still have a couple unofficial visits,” Viliamu-Asa explained. “I plan on also taking some official visits in June and hoping to make my decision before my senior season in the fall.”

The Irish staff is one of the programs that have stood out tremendously to the St. John Bosco standout. It is their authenticity and relentlessness that have really made them unique and shine above a crazy list of suitors.

“I think Notre Dame is doing a really good job,” he said. “I talk with those guys consistently. I think Ohio State is doing a great job. Miami, I’m in contact with them a lot and also the University of Washington.

“I’m in contact with Coach (Chad) Bowden, Coach (Al) Golden, Coach (Marcus) Freeman, now Coach Max Bullough and Coach (Al) Washington,” Viliamu-Asa continued. “Coach Washington I previously knew from Ohio State, he recruited me when he was at Ohio State. That relationship continued when he transitioned over to Notre Dame. That relationship has just continued to build. Coach Freeman too, he contacts me and my family every week. Chad, Coach Golden, we communicate on a consistent basis. The relationships have been getting better and better.”

A new name that Notre Dame fans are very interested in hearing more about is Bullough. His resume is pretty impressive for such a younger coach but true impact will be laid in his actions over the next couple of months. According to Viliamu-Asa, the early returns are very positive.

“I’ve talked to him a couple of times on the phone,” he began. “I think we have been building a really good foundation every week. I think he is really straight forward. He’s young and he has some experience with Alabama.

“Some of the things that he knows defensive wise really correlates with what we do at Bosco,” Viliamu-Asa stated. “We talk ball and we have been able to talk ball about defensive schemes. We are similar and I look forward to continuing my relationship with him as well.”

It looks like Notre Dame will be in this recruitment right until the end. A lot of the values that the program seems to bring match appropriately with what Viliamu-Asa is searching for.

“One I think is player development,” he began. “I want to be able to be developed into the best linebacker that I can be and play in the NFL. On the academic side, I’m looking for sustainability. It can’t be all football so the importance of the degree is big in my recruitment, being able to have something that takes me beyond football.

“Also it’s about the people,” he continued. “The people at the university and the relationships that I am able to build, people I’m going to be around and the environment. I want to make sure that the people around me are these to make each other better with a like minded environment. Also the spiritual aspect of it. With my faith as a Christian, I want to be in a good environment.”

Viliamu-Asa is considered a four-star recruit by every major recruiting platform. He ranks highest on the Rivals ranking, currently sitting as the No. 60 overall player and No. 3 linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class. 247Sports sees the California star similarly, pegging him as the No. 69 overall player and No. 6 linebacker in the class.

The 6-2, 225-pound defender is being courted by some of the top programs in all of college football. A few of the premier offers that Viliamu-Asa boasts are the Irish, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Miami, USC, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Penn State, Oregon, Michigan State, Auburn, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Washington, UCLA, Washington State, Oregon State, Arizona State, Boston College, Stanford, Arizona and Kansas among many others.

The California native put together a dynamic junior campaign for the 13-1 St. John Bosco team. He finished the season with 111 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks despite missing one game. Viliamu-Asa also recorded an interception, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and a pass breakup.
