2024 Linebacker Chris Cole Has High Expectations For Upcoming Notre Dame Trip

Standout 2024 Salem (Va.) High School linebacker Chris Cole has quickly risen near the top of the Notre Dame board, and how he gets a chance to see what the Fighting Irish have to offer. Cole will be in South Bend to visit Notre Dame's football program on Friday.

Cole won’t be able to stay for the Blue-Gold Game, but this still promises to be a monumental opportunity for Notre Dame. While Cole has already been on campus before, he is excited to get a deeper taste of Irish football this time around.

"I have high expectations of Notre Dame because of its historic history and elite football program,” Cole told Irish Breakdown. "I hope to see the campus, learn more about academics, housing, and see what Notre Dame has to offer student athletes on and off the field.

"I started developing relationships with the defense staff last summer when I was invited to camp where I balled out,” Cole continued. "Coach (Al) Golden and some of the defense support staff were impressed with my performance. Caleb Davis has kept contact with me throughout this process. Notre Dame has historically been known for developing great players that go on to the next level and are successful men off the field which makes Notre Dame a great fit for me.”

Even with Notre Dame now making Cole a priority, the competition is going to be fierce for the Virginia standout. The Irish staff isn’t the only notable program who has taken notice of Cole over the last few months. He has quickly become one of the more popular names at linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class nationally.

"My recruitment has picked up a lot lately,” said Cole. "I’ve visited Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Maryland, West Virginia, Penn State, Miami, Virginia and Duke this spring. I still have plans to visit Florida State, Auburn, University of Florida, Alabama, Oregon and USC.”

As of now, Cole has plans to make a college decision early in his senior season. It will be interesting to see if that timeline stays consistent after his string of upcoming visits. For now, this visit on Friday offers a chance to impress Cole and make a strong push for Notre Dame.

Cole’s recruiting ranking does not match his offer list currently. As of right now, he is rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 70 linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class according to 247Sports. His film and skill shows a much, much better prospect.

Despite that oddly low ranking, Cole currently holds an impressive offer list. Some of the notable programs that have extended offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, Miami, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Auburn, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Duke, Vanderbilt and West Virginia among others.
