Cornerback Trey McNutt III Excited About "Dope" Notre Dame Offer
On Friday, Notre Dame held its annual Pot of Gold offer event, extending offers to a flurry of talented 2025 recruits. Included in that extravaganza, the staff offered Shaker Heights (Ohio) High School star safety Trey McNutt III.
As it turns out, Notre Dame has been forging a relationship with McNutt behind the scenes since the dead period lifted. That led to today, with the Ohio native receiving the great news.
“Maybe like a week ago I got on the phone with Dre Brown and a few other staff members and we were having a good talk,” McNutt stated. “Then today the safeties coach Chris O’Leary extended me the offer.
“My thoughts on Notre Dame is that it's dope,” McNutt continued. “The staff seems super cool, and I know that Notre Dame is a great program and has a great school.”
The Pot of Gold was created in order for the Irish program to create excitement amongst the recruiting landscape. It is something that have been receiving rave reviews from recruits, including McNutt.
“I never knew about the Pot of Gold event until recently and I think that it's really dope to highlight all the 2025 recruits,” he said.
The recruiting process isn’t new to McNutt but things have been escalating quickly. There is legitimate interest for what the Ohio star could potentially provide.
“So far my recruitment has been great,” said McNutt. “I got my first offer at the end of freshman season and from there it has spiked a lot. Through the process it keeps me humble and always reminds me that I have to keep working.”
McNutt has continued to attract several big time programs in his recruitment. Some of his notable offers so far include Michigan, Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Illinois and Purdue among others.
The 5-11, 160-pound athlete made plays on both sides of the ball for Shaker Heights as a sophomore. On defense, he recorded 40 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception and eight pass breakups.
On offense, McNutt totaled 577 yards. He also scored eight touchdowns as well.
The Ohio standout is set to make his first visit to Notre Dame on March 29th. That trip will give McNutt a great chance to see a spring practice.
That will be McNutt’s first trip to campus. The Ohio standout will also be visiting Northwestern, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh and Ohio State this spring, although not all of those dates are finalized.
