Defensive End Christopher Burgess Gets Full Notre Dame Experience During Visit

Star 2025 Chicago defensive lineman Christopher Burgess recaps his Blue-Gold Game visit to Notre Dame

Chicago (Ill.) Simeon defensive end Christopher Burgess has been a frequent visitor to Notre Dame over the last month, and the Irish made another strong impression on the 2025 standout during his Blue-Gold Game visit.

This was Burgess' second trip to South Bend in less than a month, and you can expect him back again as his recruitment carries on. The most recent trip for Burgess came this weekend during the spring game.

This visit provided Burgess with another chance to learn more about Notre Dame.

This visit, once again, provided Burgess another unique perspective. That includes the past Notre Dame greats who were on campus.

"It was a great visit,” Burgess told Irish Breakdown. "We all had the chance to chill with the alumni before the game. They told a bunch of stories and shared their experiences.”

Burgess also got the chance to experience the feeling of being a Notre Dame football player first hand. He now knows what it’s like to run out of the tunnel in Notre Dame stadium.

"We also got to run out of the tunnel behind the team before the game,” he said. "Touching the champion sign, being able to run out in front of the crowd, that was really cool.”

Of course the big part of these visits is recruits continuing their relationships with the coaches who are recruiting them. In a short amount of time, Burgess has developed great relationships with the Irish staff. He has really been hitting it off with one coach in particular.

"Our relationships have been building really well,” Burgess explained. "I talk to the staff every week. Al Washington and I have a really good relationship.

"I got the chance to talk a lot with Coach Washington before the game as well,” he continued. "It was cool to be able to see him coach the players in person. He’s a great dude and a great coach.”

With the page about to be turned on April, things are going to begin to slow down a bunch for Burgess. He still does expect a lot of visitors and attention in a few weeks.

"I think I’m done with visits for now,” he said. "My dad has taken me to so many places. My goal was to do Under Armour and Rivals camps and I believe I did just that. I think all the schools will be coming to see me in the next few weeks.”

Burgess sure has been turning heads recently. He has already been dominating the campus circuit. With his raw tools, he could develop into one of the premier defensive lineman in the class.

The 2025 recruiting class is talent rich in the city of Chicago, a place where Notre Dame should always make a big impact. Burgess is one of the area's most talented players.

The 6-4, 240-pound pass rusher was a huge part of a 12-1 Simeon squad that finished off the season with a 33-30 victory over Fenwick. That talented squad outscored their opponents by a 512 to 197 point margin. Burgess was among the more talented players on the roster, including wide receiver Malik Elzy who Notre Dame recruited a bit during the 2023 cycle.

The toolsy Burgess is just starting to get his footing in terms of the recruiting landscape. He is starting to garner interest from several notable programs in the Midwest. Some of his top offers so far include Notre Dame, Illinois, Louisville and Purdue among others. Schools like Michigan and Wisconsin are a few of the other schools who have also been in contact.

In a recent ranking update, Burgess was rated as the No. 130 overall player and No. 13 edge in the 2025 recruiting class according to On3. They also have him rated as the No. 5 player from the state of Illinois, a state that is littered with high level talent in 2025.
