Texas Pass Catcher Taz Williams Jr. Recaps Blue-Gold Game Visit
A part of the Blue-Gold Game excitement this past weekend, the Notre Dame staff also had a massive recruiting event on their hands. That included Red Oak (Texas) High School pass catcher Taz Williams Jr., who made his first trip to campus.
Most recruits on campus were excited about the offensive explosion they saw from Irish quarterback Sam Hartman and the Gold squad. That included Williams, who was ecstatic to see the team sling the football around on Saturday.
"The game was great,” Williams said. "I loved the way the new offense is looking. They are airing it out and making a lot of plays.”
Both before and after the game, the Texas standout also had the chance to explore South Bend. He left impressed with everything that the program had to offer, both as a football player, student and person.
"The rest of the trip was great,” Williams stated. "I was able to walk through campus a little bit and I really enjoyed it. It’s a beautiful place.”
Heading into the visit, the Notre Dame staff has made a tremendous impact on the talented pass catcher. Those relationships continued to blossom this weekend, now being able to put a face to a name.
"I got along with the coaches very well,” he explained. "I was able to just share things about myself outside of football. It was great to get to know them on a deeper level.
"Coach (Chansi) Stuckey is a cool dude,” Williams continued. "His personality stands out and we talk about a lot of stuff outside of football and recruiting.”
After this visit, Williams is absolutely open to returning in the future. Notre Dame has made a tremendous impact in the state of Texas over the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes. Williams could help those fortunes to continue in 2025.
Williams is already being courted by some of the premier programs in all of college football. Some of the notable schools that have offered him include the Irish, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, TCU, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Auburn, Baylor, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Missouri, Arizona State, Arizona and Cal among others.
The 6-1, 175-pound pass catcher is currently rated as the No. 111 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class by Rivals.
As a sophomore at Red Oak, the Texas star hauled in 31 receptions for 582 yards and five touchdowns. Williams also averaged 27.5 yards per kick return, including a long of 85 yards. He also had a long of 78 yards on a catch as well, showcasing his ability to create explosive plays.
