Notre Dame already got a great early addition to the 2025 recruiting class with Florida defensive tackle Davion Dixon. The Irish staff is once again evaluating another Sunshine State standout in Newberry (Fla.) High School defensive lineman Jarquez Carter, who brings a lot of upside to the table.

Carter has been heating up from a recruiting perspective over the last several weeks. It was slow at first but interest is really beginning to heat up. With that, visits are also being finalized.

"Recruiting has been going great recently,” Carter said. "My next visit is to Florida State on July 29th. I’m also hoping to get up to Notre Dame for a game visit this year.

"UCF, Notre Dame and Miami are definitely the schools standing out right now,” he added. "They’ve been contacting me consistently. They each bring something very unique to the table.”

For Carter, Notre Dame is a very easy sell. From the moment they offered, the staff has been working to build real connections. That is a great early sign in this recruitment.

"Coach (Al) Washington and I have only been on the phone a few times because of my grade and the rules, but those few times I think we had great conversations and really connected,” Carter explained. "He seems like a really good person and an awesome coach.

"Notre Dame stands out a lot because of them being a top school on the field and in the classroom,” Carter continued. "They give you everything you need to be great.”

Carter has begun gaining substantial interest from various colleges recently. Over the last couple of months, he has been offered by the Fighting Irish, Miami and Penn State. Along with his first UCF offer, and several other offers already, that list promises to expand in the very near future.

The 6-3, 275-pound defensive lineman was an absolute monster as a sophomore. He finished third on the Newberry squad with 78 total tackles, including 23 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. Carter also recorded eight quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, two pass breakups and a blocked kick.
