Notre Dame "An Easy Sell" For Star Cornerback Chuck McDonald III
When you talk about the elite programs in high school football, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei is among the best. The program routinely puts out elite talent on a year to year basis.
The 2025 class is littered with Monarch standouts, including cornerback Chuck McDonald III. Notre Dame has been putting in a lot of effort early to get in a good spot with McDonald, which has paid early dividends.
“My relationship with Notre Dame has been developing very well,” McDonald told Irish Breakdown. “I’m hoping I can get down there to see the campus soon. The staff are really incredible people. Coach (Mike) Mickens has been making me feel like a priority very early on.
“Notre Dame has been standing out with me recently because they have been consistent with building a relationship with me,” McDonald continued. “It’s a pretty easy sell from the football perspective when you look at how Coach Mickens has been developing cornerbacks.”
The Irish staff has been trying very hard to get McDonald to make the trip to South Bend. Despite that, the Irish staff has already generated a lot of interest. They are already in his top group and could be receiving a visit in the future.
“My recruiting has been great recently,” he explained. “Some important visits coming up will most likely be Oregon and I’m still planning on visiting more schools. I should have a bunch more updated soon.
“Some schools that have been doing a really good job recruiting me lately are Alabama,Tennessee, Oregon, Michigan, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Ohio State and also USC,” McDonald added.
Getting him on campus would be a big deal. Potentially getting into the Mater Dei pipeline would be even bigger of a deal.
McDonald, already being one of the more talented players on a notoriously excellent Mater Dei squad, is already grabbing the attention of the elite across all of college football. Some of his notable programs who have extended offers so far include the Irish, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Miami, USC, Florida State, Texas A&M, Oregon, Washington, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Colorado and Arizona among others.
247Sports, ESPN and Rivals has McDonald pegged as a four-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting class. On the 247Sports ranking, he currently sits as the No. 74 overall player and No. 10 cornerback in the class.
The 6-1, 180-pound cornerback assumed a starting role as a sophomore. He collected 28 total tackles, one tackle for loss and six breakups on the season. McDonald also forced a fumble and blocked two punts for the Monarchs.
