Notre Dame Commit Bodie Kahoun Preparing For Massive Senior Jump
There are several talented 2024 Notre Dame commits who should be set up for huge senior seasons. One of the biggest potential risers, and one to keep a close eye on, is Roanoke (Va.) Patrick Henry linebacker Bodie Kahoun.
On paper, it’s easy to see the appeal to Kahoun. He’s got a good frame, is explosive, can run and has no issue hitting. On film, he’s a raw athlete that needs a lot of fine tuning.
Unfortunately the film doesn’t give full context of the situation. Kahoun was just learning on the job at linebacker last year.
"I have only played five games at linebacker, and they were all last year,” Kahoun told Irish Breakdown. "I have been more focused on film and the specifics of being an elite linebacker. I’m already feeling the improvements in summer workouts.
"I want to continue to develop the speed of my reads as well as working on overall tackling efficiency,” he added. "As a team we will need to be a more consistent defense this year versus the run and passing game.”
A big part of that maturation this off-season has been centered around Kahoun taking a step physically. He’s now up above 220 pounds and owes his work ethic over the last few months as a reason he has come this far.
"It's been a really busy, but great off-season so far,” explained Kahoun. "I’ve just been training and in the weight room five days a week. I feel stronger and faster than ever. The last few months have been about being consistent and working as hard as possible.
"Being a senior now, this is the last go around,” he added. “Being the best defensive leader on the field for us is definitely my biggest goal. That starts off of it.”
Of course the talented defender already has his eyes set toward the next step after high school. He is a part of a really gifted 2024 class that he has high expectations for.
"Building the 2024 class has been great overall,” he said. "I had a great time finally meeting and learning about them on my official visit. Other than that, we just keep in touch daily. I personally think this is a great group and will do special things together.”
The 6-3, 220-pound standout linebacker had continued to see his offer list expand over the last few months heading into the decision. Some of the notable programs that had offered Kahoun included the Irish, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia Tech, Virginia, NC State, West Virginia and Indiana among others.
The dual-sport star is currently one of the top athletes on the 5-A level in Virginia. Despite his obvious connection to the state of Virginia, Kahoun actually did grow up in Zionsville, Indiana. He has his Midwest roots and was clearly very aware of the brand that Notre Dame boasts.
Kahoun is also a standout lacrosse player for Patrick Henry. The star midfielder had been committed to Ohio State for lacrosse since September of 2022 up until he opened himself to opportunities with football. His ability to potentially play football, or both sports, in college has changed his outlook to explore different options on the next level. That journey has led him to this commitment with the Irish.
