Notre Dame Commit Nate Roberts Gearing Up To Defend State Title

Elite 2025 tight end Nate Roberts previews his upcoming season

The tight end position has been an area of strength historically for Notre Dame. That looks to continue into the future, especially after gaining a commitment from 2025 Washington (Okla.) High School star Nate Roberts on June 17th.

Roberts now has the opportunity to focus on the upcoming season with the decision behind him. His Washington squad is extremely talented, and ready to defend their title.

“We won the state championship last season so we are really trying to get that stage ring,” Roberts told Irish Breakdown. “That’s the goal but honestly we’re just focused on being great teammates and that stuff will take care of itself. This off-season has all been about improving and being the best version of myself. That’s the goal.”

Outside of the recruiting chaos, Roberts has spent this off-season getting better. He has been busy focusing on being the best player, and teammate he can be.

“The off-season has definitely been going well,” he said. “I have been training with the team constantly. We pretty much have the same players as last season so it’s really about building off of the foundation. As a team, we have really been getting after it while staying as healthy as possible. It’s really been treating me well.”

The best part about Roberts is that he fully understands the areas of his game he needs to improve. For a player this talented, that isn’t always an easy thing but Roberts fully understands, and welcomes that growth.

“My two biggest areas of improvement I’ve been focusing on are my footwork and blocking,” Roberts explained. “Those are two things that I really needed to get better at. I’ve gotten bigger and faster this off-season but I need to become more efficient and consistent. We have been getting together and throwing once or twice a week, working out, lifting, really everything we can to get better.”

He has also spent the last few months stepping up as a leader. Now a junior, more is expected of Roberts.

“Leadership is a big thing for me this season,” he said. “Being a role model for the younger guys is very important to me. I want to be an example of how to do things and remain focused.”

Even though his decision has been made, recruiting isn’t over for Roberts. He is now growing in his role with the Notre Dame team and getting to know his other classmate Davion Dixon, as well as Gerad Parker on a deeper level.

“Davion and I have definitely been developing a better relationship,” Roberts stated. “We stay in touch as much as possible.

“It’s been great. Between Coach Parker and I, the relationship is changing,” he continued. “I feel like I’ve gone from a recruit to a real player for him. We started watching some film together, talking about how the tight ends are going to be used this season. It’s been incredible.”

Roberts has already solidified an unofficial to Notre Dame for the USC game. Over a month removed from his decision, Roberts has not wavered one bit from his commitment. He’s all Irish.

The 6-4, 225-pound tight end was a dynamic pass catcher as a sophomore. Roberts would explode for 705 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on just 33 receptions, averaging 21.3 yards per reception. His explosiveness was put on full display after the catch with 324 yards.

Roberts is considered a four-star recruit by 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals. 247Sports currently ranks him the highest, sitting as the No. 54 overall player and No. 2 tight end in the 2025 recruiting class.

The Oklahoma native chose Notre Dame over a host of talented programs who were prioritizing him. Some of Roberts’ more notable offers include Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson, Miami, TCU, Penn State, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Washington State, Missouri, Texas Tech, Kansas, Purdue and Baylor among several others.
