Notre Dame Commit Peter Jones Is Forging A Great Bond With Joe Rudolph

Offensive line commit Peter Jones gives insight into his growing relationship with Joe Rudolph

One of the longest tenured recruits in the 2024 class for Notre Dame, Malvern (Pa.) Prep offensive lineman Peter Jones is a player that already goes under the radar. That’s the nature of the position, along with being a player who is pretty quiet from a media perspective.

Jones has maintained a firm commitment to the Irish over the last ten months. That pledge was put to the edge when former offensive line coach Harry Hiestand departed several months ago. The relationship between the two was a big reason for Jones’ commitment.

There was a ton of anxiousness for Jones to see who the next offensive line coach would be. One Joe Rudolph was hired, one of the first missions was to connect with Jones and make sure that his commitment was firm. That relationship has been becoming stronger and stronger by the day.

“Coach Rudolph and I have been getting along really well,” Jones told Irish Breakdown. “We’re definitely building a great relationship. He is a devoted person who cares about his players on and off the field. He brings a great energy and focus to the position.”

That endorsement is an incredible thing to hear from Jones. Following a legend like Coach Hiestand is no easy feat but Rudolph has seemed to calm some nerves, at least from Jones.

Overall, that relationship isn’t the only one that has been getting stronger for Jones. He has also been busy getting to know his fellow Irish commits on a deeper level.

“Everything has been going great,” Jones said. “I think we’ve all gotten closer as a group and we’re all excited to be back together. We really have a great group.”

Jones was able to get the recruiting process out of the way even before his junior season had begun. Now he has one final season to get ready for that. After that, it’s all about the next chapter: dawning the blue and gold.

“The off-season has been going very well also,” he explained. “My goal for next year is to win our league and go undefeated. I really just want to be the best version of myself and prepare for the next challenge.”

The Pennsylvania native ranks as high as the No. 90 overall player and No. 3 interior offensive lineman in the 2024 recruiting class according to Rivals. ESPN also has him rated as a four-star recruit.

The Malvern Prep standout opted for the Irish in the beginning of August. He chose the Irish over other offers from Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Penn State, Nebraska, Kentucky, Michigan State, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Virginia, Boston College, West Virginia and Duke among others.
