Notre Dame Commit Sean Sevillano Is Helping To Continue The Canadian Pipeline
From the city of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada to Clearwater Florida, and eventually to South Bend - it has been quite the journey for Clearwater (Fla.) Academy International defensive tackle Sean Sevillano Jr. Over the last two recruiting classes, Notre Dame has made a real impact tapping into the Canadian pipeline on the defensive line, including signing Devan Houstan and Armel Mukam in 2024.
Combine that with the success that Chase Claypool had in the blue and gold, you certainly appear to have an impressive pipeline being built. Sevillano will be a big part of that, which is a testament to hard work and perseverance to define the odds.
"Being from Canada, you don’t really know this is an opportunity you have growing up,” Sevillano told Irish Breakdown. "With guys like Devan (Houstan) and Armel (Mukam) last year, it really shows how much talent we have to offer up North.
"I even had a chance to go back up to Canada and visit my old middle school,” Sevillano continued. "All the kids were excited to meet me and I’m like, 'I’m not even cool yet.' Those moments are really surreal and incredible.”
Sevillano has gained a lot of fans through the process, gaining full support from Irish fans and others who have heard his story so far. Of course, that story isn’t over. He still has a senior season to play, one that should be a big one based on this off-season.
"The off-season has been huge,” he explained. "Really each off-season has been my biggest chance for growth.
"I’ve changed my body physically a little bit,” Sevillano added. "I’ve been working on being a more technical football player in my craft. I’ve been digging deeper into my pass rush bag. In the run game, I just want to have an even bigger impact consistently. There’s always room to get better.”
Sevillano also isn’t the only legitimate prospect on the Clearwater American International squad. In fact, there is a long list of talented recruits who have a chance to make an impact on the college level. Players like Isaiah Thomas (Miami), Dallas Sims (Minnesota), Evans Chuba (Washington State), Mauricio Hinds (Minnesota), Keyari James (Maryland) and Ludovic Martin (UMass) are all a part of this senior class, one that is viewed as special.
"We’ve been building this 2024 class for a while,” said Sevillano. "We’re all super close. I’m sure you’ve heard of a bunch of our guys. We’re just super excited to get on the field together and push for our goals.”
That 2024 class isn’t the only special one. His fellow members of the Notre Dame class are also extremely impressive. Sevillano sure thinks so.
"It’s a national championship class,” he said. "When I got to go up there on my official visit, it’s just so easy to see how special this group is. I truly believe that we are going to do it. We all believe it.
"I love Notre Dame,” Sevillano continued. "I’m so ready for the season and to get up there in January.”
Sevillano was a dominant force for Clearwater American International as a junior. On the season, he recorded 78 total tackles, 50 tackles for loss, 22 sacks and six forced fumbles. He did all that while only playing in just 11 games.
The 6-2, 300-pound defender chose the Irish over a long list of impressive offers. Some of the notable programs that extended offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Miami, Auburn, Wisconsin, Stanford, Maryland, Louisville, Duke, Illinois, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Indiana, Iowa State and Kansas among others.
