Defensive End Bryce Young Commits To Notre Dame
Notre Dame added another defensive end to its highly ranked 2024 class today by landing a commitment from Charlotte (N.C.) Christian defensive end Bryce Young. The 6-5, 240-pound defensive end pick Notre Dame over Michigan, USC, Tennessee and many others. He had quickly become a hot target on the trail in recent months, but the Irish won the day.
Young is a raw young lineman with a lot of upside. As an outside linebacker for Charlotte Christian in 2022, Young racked up 92 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles. He has a massive frame that should allow him to make a transition to the edge as he gets stronger and fills out, which he has already started to do.
Bryce is an emerging prospect that is starting to grow into his massive frame. He was very skinny as a sophomore, but during his junior season he began to fill out, and his game improved as well. He's now checking in at 240 pounds after being just 215 pounds in the fall. He plays off the edge at times, but also is used in space and in coverage at times. As his strength has improved his ability to plays has increased, and Young has a lot of room to continue filling out and adding strength.
A consensus three-star recruit when he was offered by the Irish, Young has seen his recruiting profile grow. He's a four-star recruit and the No. 236 overall player in the country according to On3. He's also ranked as a four-star by Rivals.
Young is the second end and third defensive lineman to commit to the Irish in the 2024 class, joining Georgia edge Cole Mullins and New Jersey defensive tackle Owen Wafle.
The Charlotte Christian standout is the son of former Notre Dame star and NFL Hall of Famer Bryant Young. The elder Young was part of Notre Dame's 12-1 team in 1993, and during that season he earned All-American honors and was the 7th overall pick of the 1994 NFL Draft.
Young earned offers from the Irish, USC, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Iowa, Stanford, Duke, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia Tech, California and BYU.
