Notre Dame Didn’t Disappoint Jarquez Carter On His First Visit
The Notre Dame staff put together a tremendous event on Sunday, welcoming a swarm of important recruiting targets on campus for the “Grill and Chill” recruiting event. For the first time, 2025 Newberry (Fla.) High School standout defensive tackle Jarquez Carter made the trip to South Bend.
Carter was met with excitement during the day, including a campus tour, cookout, some dodgeball, knockout and more. There was high expectations coming into the event, which even seemed to exceed Carter’s expectations.
"I’ve always loved Notre Dame for the academics and the football part of it,” Carter told Irish Breakdown. "The visit was about seeing everything with my own eyes. They did not disappoint.”
The overall trip was an educational one for the talented defender. Carter was given the chance to bond with the follow recruits and coaches on campus, but was also given the chance to explore. It’s the little cool parts about South Bend that really makes the place magical.
"My favorite part of the visit was definitely the cook off,” Carter explained. "We made some great food and it was really a good chance to bond with everyone out there. Everyone was so nice and really inviting.
"The campus was full of little surprises,” he continued. "You think you know what to expect coming in, but then there are things you learned that kind of blow your mind. At one point, we were staring at the Mary statue, then I found out it’s made of real gold. Just little things like that are so cool to learn.”
From the moment he stepped on campus, Carter felt invited and wanted. The Irish staff did a tremendous job to make each recruit feel at home, Carter included.
"Everyone on campus was really cool,” he said. “I got along well with the players and coaches. Everyone really seemed to enjoy the day. My grandpa came on the trip with me. He really liked the visit a lot as well, especially the campus tour.
"The staff was talking about how Davion (Dixon) and I would be a great duo together,” Carter continued, referring to the current Notre Dame commit. “They were really happy that I came up in general. I got to spend a lot of time with the other Florida guys on campus.”
Carter has begun gaining substantial interest from various colleges recently. Over the last couple of months, he has been offered by the Fighting Irish, Miami and Penn State. Along with his first UCF offer, and several other offers already, that list promises to expand in the very near future.
The 6-3, 275-pound defensive lineman was an absolute monster as a sophomore. He finished third on the Newberry squad with 78 total tackles, including 23 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. Carter also recorded eight quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, two pass breakups and a blocked kick.
