Dynamic Pass Catcher Talyn Taylor An Absolute Priority For Notre Dame

Talyn Taylor's mother, Venus Taylor, updates the talented pass catcher's recruitment

This weekend, Geneva (Ill.) County star wide receiver Talyn Taylor is set to make a return to campus for the recruiting cookout. It will be the 2025 standout's second trip to Notre Dame this off-season. Taylor has quickly become an absolute priority for the Irish staff, profiling as one of the best, and most dynamic pass catchers in the country.

So far, the Illinois standout is hearing from a host of extremely notable programs, and for good reason. Taylor is currently rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 17 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class according to Rivals.

As you can imagine, Taylor is enjoying the process so far. According to his mother, Venus Taylor, they are extremely fortunate to be in the position they are.

"We have really enjoyed the recruiting process as well as the opportunity to get to see several top schools and meet their staff and personnel,” Taylor said. "We feel extremely blessed and grateful for the opportunity to be in this position.”

The Taylor family has also enjoyed getting to know the Irish staff. While the communication is limited for now, they have made a great early impression.

"The relationship has been developing nicely (with Notre Dame),” she explained. "Obviously due to NCAA rules coaches won’t be able to contact Talyn regularly until September 1st. However, through visits, camps, there has been some really good dialogue and relationship building in the process.

"Coach (Chansi) Stuckey is a good guy and he has made it clear Talyn is a huge priority for Notre Dame,” Taylor continued. "Talyn enjoyed meeting the staff and he felt very welcomed by everyone.”

There is no question that Notre Dame values the talented pass catcher tremendously. Taylor is right at the top of their board currently, and a clear priority in the class.

"The staff has continued to state that Talyn is a huge priority in their recruiting,” she stated. "They plan to use him in multiple ways as a receiver. In addition they are able to market several strengths from both an academic and athletic standpoint as well, as a community with a strong alumni network and a faith based culture.”

Notre Dame has made sure that Taylor and his family know the full scope for what they can bring to the table. While they plan on using him at a high level as a wide receiver, Taylor is also a person that they want to be a part of the Irish family as a whole.

As far as timelines are concerned, Taylor is in no rush. There are a lot of great schools coming after him and the family intends to let the process play out. There’s no need to force the issue.

"Typically the timeline for most players is to commit after they take their official visits,” explained Taylor. "It is an important part of the process as it gives recruits a more up close and personal experience. It also gives them the opportunity to meet other players within the program and really get an idea of the pulse and vibe within the culture.

"A lot goes into the process as it is a very big decision that will shape and impact your future,” she added. "Examples would be first and foremost getting a great education, championship culture and standards, comfort with the staff, opportunity to play, level of comfort with the team and the program, being challenged everyday to compete at a high level, and lastly how a program can best help him develop both at the collegiate level and prepare him for his future goal to be an NFL player.”

The start of recruitments are always very important. Notre Dame has done a tremendous job to appeal to Taylor and his family early on. From here, it’s going to be about consistency and ability to buy fully into the message. No matter the result, one thing is certain, the Irish staff is incredibly high on Talyn Taylor.

The Illinois standout is coming off of a dynamic sophomore campaign for Geneva County. He led the squad with 45 receptions for 801 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games. Taylor was also the teams main kick and punt returner, averaging 11.5 yards per punt return on the season.

The 6-1, 175-pound pass catcher is putting together a stellar offer list. Some of the notable programs to offer Taylor include Notre Dame, Georgia, Alabama, USC, Michigan, Miami, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Michigan State, UCLA, Utah, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas State, Louisville, Purdue, Minnesota, Syracuse and Kansas among many others.
