Notre Dame Had Elite 2025 Cornerback Devin Williams "In Shock"
On Thursday, Notre Dame received a big visit from 2025 Buford (Ga.) High School cornerback Devin Williams, who is one of the premier cover men in his class. It was an incredibly anticipated trip for both sides, especially for Williams.
"Since the day Notre Dame offered, I’ve felt like a priority for them,” Williams told Irish Breakdown before the visit. "I reach out to them and the conversations are not just fluff. They are very deliberate about their interest in me. They’ve been wanting me to come up there for a while and it’s finally here. I can’t wait to get there.”
The visit did not disappoint.
It started with the Notre Dame coaches, who did a tremendous job to really make him comfortable.
"The coaches showed me a lot of hospitality and I definitely built a solid relationship with them,” said Williams. "I had a lot of fun spending time with them, especially Coach (Mike) Mickens.”
Then the Georgia star had a chance to really explore the campus. The uniqueness was something that really stood out.
"The campus had me in shock,” explained Williams. "It’s a very unique campus and different from other schools. The campus was amazing along with the stadium.
"I was surprised that there were only 8,500 hundred students there,” he continued. "Classroom size ratio was really small, and that’s important to me as I start to narrow down the schools I’m interested in. The other thing that stood out was Coach Mickens telling me he’s not afraid to play freshmen if you prove you can handle you can make plays and be consistent. Both of those things really matter to me.”
Making an impact in the state of Georgia is a priority area for the Irish staff. This trip, with a combination of coach relationships and student experience, presents an intriguing fit. Williams returning to campus in the fall is a definite possibility.
Williams is considered a consensus four-star and top 100 recruit by every major recruiting platform. He ranks currently as the No. 60 overall player and No. 6 cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class according to the On3 Industry ranking. That also has him pegged as the No. 11 player from the state of Georgia, a state that puts out a silly amount of talent each year.
The 5-10, 155-pound cornerback is being pursued by some of the top programs in all of college football. Some of his notable offers include Notre Dame, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida State, Penn State, Texas, Florida, Auburn, Texas A&M, Arkansas, NC State, Colorado, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Duke and Georgia Tech among others.
The Buford standout is also a standout track and field athlete for the school’s team. As a sophomore, he posted personal bests of 10.65 seconds in the 100 meter dash and 21.4 seconds in the 200. That speed and explosiveness translates over to the football field in a big way.
