The Chicago area is putting out more and more talent recently. With Notre Dame being so close to that pool of talent, they must consistently keep the best recruits at home. In the 2025 recruiting class, there is no greater example than Chicago (Ill.) Simeon defensive end Christopher Burgess.

When Notre Dame takes on Ohio State on Saturday, it is a massive opportunity on the recruiting side to attract and impress several top recruits. Burgess is very much included in that intention, who will be checking out the game amongst a couple other big visits.

"I have a few game day visits set up,” Burgess told Irish Breakdown. "I’ll be at Notre Dame versus Ohio State, Colorado versus USC and Michigan against Ohio State. I’m excited to be able to check out all of these great schools and their game day environments.”

So far, the Irish staff has done a tremendous job showing Burgess that he is an absolute priority in the 2025 class. The Chicago star has been hearing from several of the coaches, leading to this great opportunity for the team to really impress him on Saturday in person.

"Coach (Al) Washington and I talk a few times a week and our relationship is getting stronger,” said Burgess. “I also talk to Coach (Marcus) Freeman a lot. They are both great guys.

"Notre Dame has been looking really good this season and I’m looking forward to seeing how they do against Ohio State,” he continued. "It will be fun to watch.”

This visit will be a big chance for Burgess to continue to feel the energy around the program. There is no rush making a decision but the more the Irish staff can impress Burgess the better.

"When it comes to timelines, I’ll start figuring that out when my mother starts coming with me on these visits with me,” he explained. "I'll make my comment soon after. I want to make sure my family can give me feedback as well.”

Burgess isn’t just a local player. He’s also an elite level talent with tremendous upside. Notre Dame understands how important he is to the fortunes of the 2025 class.

The 6-4, 240-pound pass rusher was a huge part of a 12-1 Simeon squad that finished off the season with a 33-30 victory over Fenwick last season. That talented squad outscored their opponents by a 512 to 197 point margin. Burgess was among the more talented players on the roster, including wide receiver Malik Elzy who Notre Dame recruited a bit during the 2023 cycle.

Simeon has gotten off to a bit of a slow start in 2023, currently sitting with a 1-3 overall record. Burgess has still done his best to be the rock for the defense, recording three tackles for loss, two sacks and a fumble recovery.

The toolsy Burgess has been blowing up recently this offseason, attracting attention from some premier programs in college football. Some of his top offers so far include Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, Miami, USC, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Washington, Nebraska, Colorado, Auburn, Iowa, Ole Miss, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Louisville, Boston College, Purdue and Indiana among several others.

Burgess has also seen his recruiting ranking begin to skyrocket over the last several months. Every major recruiting platform has him ranked as a four-star recruit. Rivals ranks him highest, sitting as the No. 61 overall player and No. 6 defensive end in the 2025 recruiting class.
