Notre Dame Is An Early Standout For Elite OT Josh Petty
It’s early in the process but so far Notre Dame has made a tremendous impact on several top offensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class, and that includes elite offensive tackle Josh Petty. The Irish are making a big push for the Roswell (Ga.) Fellowship Christian star.
"Notre Dame has been a stand out offer since day one,” Petty told Irish Breakdown. "I really believe in Coach (Joe) Rudolph and what he’s bringing to Notre Dame. A big thing for me is academics as well and Notre Dame has that for sure.”
During the open period, Notre Dame made the trip out to Fellowship Christian School to check in on Petty multiple times. They have positioned themselves as one of the schools to watch in this recruitment, and are working to get the talented blindside protector to campus.
"Recently some schools that have been recruiting (me) hard are Oregon, Tennessee, Georgia, UNC, Michigan, and Notre Dame,” Petty explained. "It has been a second since me and Coach Rudolph got in contact but he is still one of my favorite offensive line coaches that I have met. I recently talked to a recruiter for them and we plan on getting out there for a game visit.”
The last few days have been a big relief for Petty to be able to get down some time and really dig into some of the schools. He has a couple of visits planned but not many lined up yet. There is sure to be quite a few during the season.
"The dead period gives me a much needed change to chill,” he said. "I believe I’m planning on going to Stanford and Oregon at the end of July right now.”
Getting Petty out of the Southeast will not be easy. Notre Dame is not backing down and is making its push. So far the Georgia native has been very receptive to the pitch.
Petty is considered as a four-star recruit by On3, ESPN and 247Sports, the three recruiting platforms that have ranked Petty so far. He ranks highest by On3, who has the Georgia standout pegged as the No. 12 overall player and No. 2 offensive tackle in the 2025 recruiting class. ESPN has Petty ranked as the No. 22 overall player and No. 4 offensive tackle in the class.
The 6-5, 260-pound offensive tackle has already attracted the interest of several notable programs, profiling as one of the elite offensive tackles in the 2025 class. Some of Petty’s top offers so far include Notre Dame, Georgia, Michigan, LSU, Florida, Penn State, Florida State, Tennessee, Oregon, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Stanford, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Georgia Tech among others.
Petty’s athletic skills are not just limited to the football field. He is also an outstanding wrestler for Fellowship Christian, leading to a 29-3 record as a sophomore for the school.
