Notre Dame Legacy Commit Bryce Young Is "A Huge Addition" To Notre Dame
Over the weekend, Notre Dame grabbed a massive commitment from 2024 Charlotte (N.C.) Christian defensive end Bryce Young, who is the son of former Irish legend Bryant Young. The elder Young was part of Notre Dame's 12-1 team in 1993, and during that season he earned All-American honors and was the 7th overall pick of the 1994 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
Charlotte Christian head coach Chris James commented on Young’s fit with the Notre Dame program. He sees it as a seamless transition, one that the talented defender is ready for.
"Obviously he knows a lot about the Notre Dame “program, he’s grown up with it,” James told Irish Breakdown. "Everything about him is a tremendous fit. Bryce comes from a great family, is a tremendous student and is a really good young man.
"Notre Dame can provide a lot to any player,” James continued. "Bryce knows the value of it and that means a lot to him. Their brand really speaks for itself, great football, outstanding education and a wonderful place to grow.”
Notre Dame is an easy sell for Young, who values all aspects of the program tremendously. According to James, the Irish program is also getting a tremendous asset to their defensive line room.
"Bryce has a tremendous work ethic and his upside is off the charts,” James said. "He moves very well for his size and will be a force off the edge at the next level. He is a great kid and will be a huge addition to the Notre Dame football program.
"He’s incredibly long and has really been growing into his frame this off-season,” James added. “Bryce is going to be able to do a lot of things up front on the defensive line. He can be hard to handle for offensive lineman.”
Young joins New Jersey native Owen Wafle and Georgia standout Cole Mullins as the defensive line commitments in the 2024 recruiting class. The defensive line class is starting to take shape and become a lot clearer.
A consensus three-star recruit when he was offered by the Irish, Young has seen his recruiting profile grow over the last few months. He is now considered a four-star recruit and the No. 236 overall player in the country according to On3. He's also ranked as a four-star by Rivals.
During his junior year in 2022, Young was a playmaker on the defensive side of the football for Charlotte Christian. He racked up 92 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles during that campaign.
Young has been extended offers from the Irish, USC, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Iowa, Stanford, Duke, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia Tech, California and BYU among many others.
