Legacy Tight End James Flanigan Continuing Great Relationship With Notre Dame
A name that is very recognizable to o Notre Dame fans is Flanigan, obviously bringing back nostalgia from the early 1990s with former defensive lineman Jim Flanigan. Flash forward 30 years and the Irish staff is again valuing the family, recruiting his son 2025 Green Bay (Wis.) Notre Dame De La Baie Academy tight end James Flanigan heavily.
The younger Flanigan is not just a namesake. He’s a talented football player who is high on Notre Dame early on. The staff has done a tremendous job to make him feel like a priority.
"The relationship is definitely developing well,” Flanigan told Irish Breakdown. "July is the next time we plan to be back up. I really like Coach (Gerad) Parker. He is a great guy and I look forward to seeing him again.
"The message to me is to just keep working hard through this process,” he continued. "They tell me constantly that I am a guy they really like and want.”
With Flanigan being a star multi-sport athlete, the recruiting process did take a bit of a backseat recently as he sought a state championship in track. It promises to heat up very quickly here with the Irish program already in a great position.
"Recruiting has been going well,” he explained. "I haven’t really gone on any visits yet as the summer has started. I have been busy with track and football but I’ll be setting some up for the next couple of months.
"I think Wisconsin, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Michigan have been doing the best job,” Flanigan added. "They have all just been in contact with me consistently.”
Flanigan has been hearing from several big time programs, including receiving offers from the Fighting Irish, Michigan, Wisconsin and Missouri thus far. The Wisconsin standout is rated as a four-star by both 247Sports and ESPN, including being pegged as the No. 166 overall player and No. 9 tight end in the 2025 recruiting class by 247Sports.
On the football field, Flanigan brings some impressive upside. He was a two-way star for the team, making a plethora of plays at both tight end and linebacker. The sophomore standout hauled in 22 receptions for 520 yards and nine touchdowns.
On defense, Flanigan recorded 66 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks. He was selected as an All Conference performer at both positions.
He is also a standout left winger for the school’s hockey team. They are fresh off of a 28-0 record this season, which included a state championship. Flanigan is a legitimate prospect on the ice as well.
If that wasn’t enough, Flanigan is also a dynamic thrower for the school’s track and field program. He is fresh off of state championship with a discus throw of 177'10". Flanigan also finished second in the shot put with a best throw of 52'7".
