Linebacker Anthony Sacca Is A Major Priority for Notre Dame
Notre Dame has a very impressive linebacker board in the 2025 class, and one of the very best prospects on that board is Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s athlete Anthony Sacca. The Philadelphia native visited in April for the Blue-Gold Game, and since then his affinity for Notre Dame has only grown. Defensive coordinator Al Golden, a college teammate of Sacca's father, is a big reason why.
"I’m talking with Coach Golden about once a week,” Sacca told Irish Breakdown. "We talk on the phone and chop it up for a little while. I’ve known him for awhile and he’s really a great guy.”
Golden and Tony Sacca were teammates at Penn State from 1988-91, with Golden playing tight end and Sacca playing quarterback. That was definitely a foot in the door, but the full scope of the Irish program has kept it open.
"Notre Dame is one of the schools I’m considering heavily and I look forward to getting back out there,” Sacca explained. "I feel like they give me one of the best chances to develop at any position on defense. Their message has really been to take it all in and make the best decision for myself.”
When asked what schools are standing out to the talented defender, it should be no surprise that the Irish program was a part of that equation. They are set to battle against some other Midwest powers, which is going to heat up soon with the dead period coming to a close.
"The main schools that have been in touch are Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame and Wisconsin,” he said. "They have all made me a priority from the very beginning.
"Recruiting has really picked up more towards the summer on the phone with some of the schools I’m considering more frequently,” Sacca added. "I’m going out to Ohio State next week. That’s really all I have planned right now.”
As a player, Sacca looks like he was born to play the rover position at Notre Dame. They are hoping that their overall pitch and personal relationships can help to land the dynamic defender in the end.
Sacca is considered as a four-star recruit by On3, ESPN and Rivals, with Rivals ranking him as the nation's No. 75 overall player, No. 9 linebacker and No. 2 player in the state of Pennsylvania.
The 6-3, 225-pound defender currently holds an impressive offer list, rivaling any recruit in the class. Some of the notable programs who have extended offers include the Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, USC, Miami, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas A&M, Florida State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Kentucky, South Carolina, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and Rutgers among others.
The Pennsylvania standout is coming off of a standout sophomore campaign for St. Joseph’s Prep, who finished 12-1 with a state championship. Despite boasting an impressive combination of size and length, Sacca played on the back end at safety for the team. He ended the year with 49 total tackles, one interception, a forced fumble and another fumble recovery.
